National Library Week Events (April 11-15)

Help us celebrate both National Library Week and Justice Week from April 11 – 15.  The Library is partnering with the Justice Matters Club to raise awareness about the injustices that children face around the world.

All week long:

  • Daily library drawings for gift certificates to local businesses. (Library Service Desk)
  • Letter writing campaign to members of Congress/Parliament (Library Study Cafe)
  • 1 in 20 people on campus will wear ORPHAN shirts to represent the 1 in 20 children in Sub-Saharan Africa that are orphaned by AIDS
  • Library fine money will be collected to “Give a Learning Library” through the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. To fight illiteracy on a local level, we’ll collect new and used children’s books for agencies such as The Bridge in Orange City. (Library Service Desk)
  • Daily book displays. (Library Service Desk)

Monday, April 11

  • Daily Trivia Drawing.  Enter to win a $10 gift certificate to Culvers. (Library Service Desk)
  • 11:00- 11:30 a.m.  Paper Airplane Contest in the Library.  Winner receives a $10 gift certificate to 55th Avenue. (Library Service Desk)
  • 7:00 p.m.  Presentation by Melissa Brisbin from the Center to Restore Trafficked and Exploited Children. (Library Study Cafe)

Tuesday,  April 12

  • Daily Trivia Drawing.  Enter to win a $10 gift certificate to the Dordt Bookstore. (Library Service Desk)
  • 7:00 p.m. AIDS documentary and discussion Frontline: The Age of AIDS (PBS Special) (SB101)

Wednesday, April 13

  • Daily Trivia Drawing.  Enter to win a $10 gift certificate to Los Tulipanes Mexican Restaurant. (Library Service Desk)
  • 10:00 a.m. Unveiling of the newest Library READ celebrity poster (Library: Hestar Hollaar Room)
  • 7:00 p.m.  Duane Postma will be talking about illegal immigration and its affects in Sioux County (Library Study Cafe)

Thursday, April 14

  • Daily Trivia Drawing.  Enter to win a $10 gift certificate to the Fruited Plain. (Library Service Desk)
  • 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Hunger meal (Kuyper Loft)

Friday, April 15

  • Daily Drawing.  One new Facebook Fan of the Library will receive a $10 gift certificate to Pizza Ranch.
  • Edible Book Contest. Entries are due by 10 a.m.  Judging begins at 3 p.m.  $25 cash prizes will be awarded in 3 categories. (Library Study Cafe)
