No, it’s not a race.
Two weeks ago Lucas Carls totaled 14 strikeouts in a game.
I’ve had several people ask where that ranks in terms of records.
The short answer.
I don’t know.
I do know it’s the second highest on record with the highest total being 15 in a game established by Guy De Haan 40 years ago in 1972.
Notice I said “on record”. You see, this is where it gets dicey. I’m missing single game statistics from 1993-2001.
That’s the point at which were transitioned from scorebooks to computerized stats and somewhere along the way those years got missed.
So, next fall, an ambitious student is going to be given the task of going through some old newspapers, looking for single game highlights so that we have a little more complete list.
If any former players can help fill in the gaps I’d appreciate it.
